The Director General NYSC Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim has implored the 2021 Batch B stream I corps members throughout the federation to be good ambassadors of the scheme, their parents and the country at large during and after their service year.
He gave this admonition in a nationwide virtual meeting with corps members and camp officials on Thursday.
In his address to them, he enjoined them to reciprocate the kind gestures of their parents who have invested so much in them to make them who they are today. He told them to adhere to social protocols, not digress from the norm and set objectives as that is the best way to show appreciation for all the years of labour spent on them.
The Director General, in an emotion-laden voice mourned the five prospective corps members who lost their lives on their way to their State of deployment and prayed for the repose of their souls.
The NYSC boss went ahead to inform corps members on the need to be security conscious, follow NYSC- Stipulated protocols for travelling and also on the need to board vehicles from recognized motor parks after obtaining the approval to travel.
He equally urged the corps members not to be involved in social vices such as kidnapping, robbery, rape, internet fraud, gender based violence, wrecking havoc on individuals, corporate and government properties.
General Ibrahim said that the scheme is meant for serious minded people hence the recognition given to outstanding and exceptional service, as such, corps members should take advantage of the different opportunities the scheme has strategically put in place for their benefit.
Brig.Gen. Shuaibu encouraged the members to use the social media positively and avoid slanderous, character assasinating posts or peddling of fake news. He said they should desist from anything that can tarnish the image of the scheme but rather to use it to promote the scheme, their skills, and the society as a whole.
