AMCON Empowers Corps Members For Self-employment

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has initiated an entrepreneurship and empowerment programme for Corps Members.

Tagged the "Managing Director's Annual NYSC Entrepreneurship Competition", the programme involves business plan contest among Corps Members serving in the organisation.

At the end of the maiden edition of the initiative, three of the fifteen contestants came tops and were presented cheques of Five Hundred Thousand Naira each at a ceremony held at AMCON's office in Abuja.

They are Joanna Jewel Adamu (FC/21A/1265), Umar Aliyu Gosta (FC/21A/1251) and Abdulsamad Saidu Usman (FC/21A/1046) whose proposals centered on online art and fashion business; poultry production; and technological innovation respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, the Managing Director of AMCON, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan Kuru noted the high rate of graduate unemployment, and the need for stakeholders to work towards steering the mindset of the youths from that of seeking white collar jobs to that of entrepreneurial engagement.

The MD, who lauded the various empowerment programmes of the Federal Government, particularly added his voice to the advocacy for the incorporation of functional entrepreneurship training into the nation's education curriculum.

He said AMCON initiated the entrepreneurship programme for Corps Members in appreciation of the invaluable contributions of NYSC to national development.

Kuru said the intervention began with the conduct of Entrepreneurship training for the Corps Members with some members of Staff of the organisation volunteering as resource persons.

The Managing Director explained that the introduction of the business plan contest was aimed at providing funds to enable the winners actualize their business dreams and, in the process, contribute to the economic development of the country.

He further stated that aside the winners, many of the other competitors came up with excellent business ideas, adding that the latter group will also be supported with some tokens.

The MD expressed determination not only to sustain the programme, but also increase the number of winners in subsequent editions.

Kuru used the occasion to assure of AMCON's readiness to go into broader partnership with NYSC in the area of entrepreneurship and empowerment.

In his address, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, said the Scheme had been assiduous in the implementation of its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme (SAED), adding that many ex-trainees of the programme were now owners of flourishing businesses.

He said Corps Members had enormous potentials for self-employment, but added that the challenge was always that of access to fund to actualize their business plans.

The Director-General said this informed the proposal for the establishment of NYSC Trust Fund, which would not only make the SAED training more functional, but also serve as sustainable source of funding for the Corps entrepreneurs.

Ibrahim thanked the AMCON Management for joining the leagues of partners supporting NYSC in the empowerment of Corps members, and assured that the Scheme would effectively partner the agency for the continued success of the new initiative.

He assured that the Scheme would strictly monitor the beneficiaries of the programme and provide feedback to AMCON on their business progress.

The Director-General congratulated the winners of the competition and enjoined them to make judicious utilization of the funds given to them.

Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, one of the winners, Joana Jewel Adamu, thanked AMCON for availing them of the opportunity for empowerment, which she described as life-changing.

She assured that they would justify the confidence reposed in them through judicious utilization of the funds.

Sc Declares Orientation Course Closed, Urges Corps Members To Imbibe Lessons

The NYSC Osun State Co-ordinator, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka, has charged corps members to sustain the zeal of patriotism by imbibing lessons taught during the orientation course as they proceed in their service year trajectory.

She congratulated and felicitated with the corps members on the successful completion of their orientation course and urged them to accept their postings in good faith so they can hit the ground running in their contribution to national development.

"As my children, I enjoin you to accept your PPA postings in good faith by conforming with workplace culture and respecting traditions of your local community to ensure a stress-free service year, " she added.

While she acknowledged the end of the in-camp SAED training, the foremost corps member in the state urged the corps members not to relent but forge ahead by consolidating on the skills acquired through post-camp trainings offered by the facilitators and instructors.

She added that they are constantly in liaison with collaborating funding agencies such as the CBN, BOA, BOI and others to assist corps members with competitively-flexible funding options that will allow them become employers of labour and proud success stories on self-empowerment worthy of emulation.

Furthermore, she asserted the importance of corps members' security and the efforts being made by management to guarantee it. She admonished the latter to be responsible in their security choices and decisions as they move out of camp. For one, night journeys are a no-no and corps members are advised to stop-over in barracks and other safe places whenever they are on a journey and it clocks 6pm.

In her concluding remarks, Mrs Winifred called on the corps members to eschew local political participation. As ambassadors of the scheme, corps members are expected to shun drug abuse, cyber crime, advance fee fraud and all other forms of crimes rampant amongst youths.

She reiterated the role of the older generation such as employers of labor in molding the upcoming generation and urged them to stand firm in their moral responsibility of rightly mentoring the youth.

Other highlights of the closing ceremony include presentation of letters of commendation to deserving corps members such as elected platoon heads, corps camp directors, as well as locators/founders of lost valuable items.

He urged them to feel the pulse of their host communities and intiate laudable projects that would ameliorate their suffering, improve their standard of living and also give them a new lease of life.

ACCEPT YOUR POSTING IN GOOD FAITH, DG TELLS CORPS MEMBERS

As the 2021 Batch 'C' Stream One Orientation Course ends tommorrow, Corps Members have been advised to accept their posting in good faith, settle down in their host communities and contribute their quota to national development.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave this advise today at FCT Orientation Camp Kubwa, Abuja, while addressing Corps Members.

He said they must add value to their host communities by providing projects that would improve the standard of living of the residents.

He warned them against induced posting and rejection, adding that anyone caught would be penalised in line with NYSC bye-laws.

The DG admonished the Corps Members to put in their best in their places of primary assignment, obey constituted authorities and serve as responsible role models to the younger ones.

Ibrahim also advised them to avoid unauthorised journeys, but obtain approval from the NYSC Management if it is compulsory for them to travel.

He warned that no Corps employer is authorised to grant permission to Corps Members to travel, except NYSC.

He urged the Corps Members to board vehicles only at designated motorparks, adding that the Scheme has liaised with relevant stakeholders like the FRSC, transport unions, among others to provide roadworthy vehicles for them while travelling and also ensure their safety on the highways.

"Don't travel at night. If your journey is going beyond 6pm, break the journey and pass the night in military barracks, NYSC Secretariats, Corps Lodges, among other safe places.

Avoid night parties and don't put yourself in harm's way", he said.

The NYSC boss warned against indulging in social vices such as cyber crime, cultism, drug peddling and abuse, adding that anyone caught would be sanctioned according to the law.

Speaking further, General Ibrahim urged the Corps Members to use the social media wisely to promote the unity and integration of the country and not to promote fake news.

"The NYSC was established to promote national unity, integration and cohesion.
We must work and live together. Let us turn our challenges to opportunity. Wherever your find yourselves, preach the unity of the country", he said.

Ibrahim lectured the Corps Members on the criteria to qualify for the NYSC President's Honours Award, stating that recipients must have exceled in the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC namely; Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Sevice and Winding Up and Passing/Out.

He added that grading for the award starts from the Orientation Camp, which is the first point of call for all Corps Members.

"If you redeploy from one state to another or caught with any infraction, you are not qualified for the award.

You will be accessed in all the four cardinal programmes of the Scheme before you will be presented for the NYSC President's Honours Award", the DG said.

Ibrahim informed the Corps Members that efforts are in top gear with other stakeholders for the establishment of NYSC Trust Fund, which would make funds available to them as they exit service to establish their businesses in line with the skills they acquired during service from the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.

He added that the Trust Fund, if actualised would be used to build new Orientation camps, expand the existing camps, maintain camp facilities among others.

Ibrahim urged them to continue with the Post-Camp training of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme and strive to become employers of labour instead of seeking for the unavailable salaried jobs.

"Cherish your integrity, identify your skills, work hard, avoid cutting corners, purse your vision with passion and use the platform of NYSC to excel in life", he said.

He encouraged the Corps Members to embrace the non-pharmaceutical COVID-19 protocols and take the vaccine in order to protect themselves and others.

He advised them to study the felt needs of their host communities and initiate laudable projects that would add value to the lives of the residents.

The Director-General further enjoined them to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme of the Scheme that was initiated to empower them for self-employment.

"Identify your talent, drive your vision with passion and commitment and the sky will be your limit", the Director-General said.

The DG appealed to the Corps Members to avoid the wrong usage of the Social Media, adding that they should, instead, deploy it for the promotion of national unity and integration.

He warned them against unauthorized journeys, while also maintaining that only State Coordinators, and not Corps Employers, could grant them permission to travel within the country.

NYSC CAMP, OBS AND THE TWO TAGS OF LEADERSHIP

Quincy Rania said, "at the end of the day, the position is just a position, a title is just a title and those things come and go. It's really your essence and your value that's important."

The idea of serving at Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) on Camp was first mentioned to me by Jésùtofunmi Prayer (MC PJ) who was a coursemate during OND years (2014-2016) during PhD Thanksgiving Service of Dr. (Mrs) Oluwakemi Omoniyi Ogungbamigbe on July 4, 2021. Because I was ignorant about the whole thing I asked too many questions about it and MC PJ gave undivided attention to my questions.

I went ahead to speak with my lecturer and boss, Mr. Chucks Okoji Taiwo and after answering my questions added "you should be there and head the place like Toba Adédèjì.

I afterwards spoke with Toba Adédèjì, Cypher Muhammad and Africa Ìtàn Ayọbami.

With these interactions it can be deducted that I got my information alright from right sources before I went to camp.

When I and my friend got letters on.... It was mixed feelings. We felt NYSC didn't only separated us but the angel carried our prayers in the opposite ways - I wanted Igbo land and he South West, I got South West and he Edo. And we were short of funds. (Afolabi Sheriff borrowed me 10k straight, and guess how much was on me when I passed through the camp gates: #35!)

My call-up letter says I resume on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 to NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State but I got there on Tuesday. I and my friend got to Osogbo the state capital Tuesday afternoon, stayed with Brother Sunday (Pa Sholley/Sonnet) before he proceeded to Edo State.

I went to Kuliya Comprehensive College at Kobongbogboe Area to change my bag before I went my way. They dropped me off at Òkè Fia where I boarded a bike to Ẹdẹ. Another bike took me to the camp.

We were going through COVID-19 proceedings when a senior medical officer came out and told them that should be all for the day. We were directed to hostels and told to come back the next day.

We slept in Room 2 of Blc that night and to continue registration the second day.....

***************************************
JOURNEY INTO ORIENTATION BROADCASTING SERVICE
************************************

A woman I later known to answer Mrs. Otemuyiwa Catherine announced that whoever knew something about photography, media, news writing, content (creation and editing), sounds and electronics, etc should come to a white-and-green painted building beside the parade ground during the morning meditation the second day I got to the camp. However I couldn't go immediately as eager as I was because I was yet to complete my registrations.

I was done by noon and rushed to the building. I met Mr. Ofure Ehizogie who is a corp member from the year 2020. He asked me of what I could do for OBS, I told him I do straight writing, content creation, editing, proofreading, publishing, freelancing and I am an author of one book as well as a trained journalist. He was visibly pleased. And as if to verify all of these adjectives he told me to write on a Nollywood actor (Yinka Quadr) who just came to drop his daughter off the camp. That was what birthed the report I headlined "NOLLYWOOD ACTOR VISITS NYSC ỌṢÙN CAMP, REINFORCES NATIONAL UNITY". I gave the news story two headlines, the above was chosen.

I believe it was no gainsaying for me to say I was the first OBS Writer of OS/21B though there were other few people who made it to OBS before me they joined other units.

Mr. Ofure Ehizogie made me 'recruit officer' for others who came. I was immediately made admin in the WhatsApp group (OBS 2021 BATCH B STREAM I) created by Mr. Agboola Ìyanu. He's the same set as Mr. Ofure. And I created Penpushers 🖋️OBS 2021B on the same day. (July 28, 2021).

Aside from the list everyone wrote their names, I was to get their numbers and names and added to the former group, and if wanted to join OBS Writers the latter too.

Now there was something about this. I more or less handpicked people who would be in OBS Writers Unit. Fields of studies, temperaments and willingness are the most important factors. My mood was the fourth. On several occasions I made it a business to 'refer' or 'advised' people to join other units.

OBS Units are six: Writers, Social Media, Sounds, Photography, Decorations and Presenters. First week of August, units' leaders were chosen: myself (writers), Debby (Social Media), Afolabi Godwin (Sounds), Babarinde Tosin (Photography), Chioma Nwozo (Decorations) and Ozuwo Beatrice Edward (Presenters). Finecountry Sotonye, man of Nigerian-British birth was made Provost.

(Mr. Finecountry's bunk was beside mine on the right, though he slept in the lower half. Mr. Shadrach Orimoloye, another man who was also in OBS slept in his other half. B.O Felix (Bamisaye Felix) who later become our hostel governor slept in my lower half. When he become governor, I added "Governor Senior Brother" to my nickname because i was sleeping above him. Mr. Oladele Oladipupo Olaoluwa (LL.B), a UI graduate student later occupied my upper left side, Umar from the North slept below him.)

If I were to be honest with you, I didn't plan to make OBS my home. But you see there were too many people who wanted to join in our first days and Mr Ofure always called me to add them to the group (I never knew why he chose me for the task since I was no creator of the group in the first place). These calls were so incessant that I took my cooler to OBS, and would go to the kitchen from there. And there were multitude of events to write on.

Having made the head of Writers, I drafted a schedule for everyone based on events of the day. The task was first given to Mr. God's will Inyama. However, he was so engaged in other ways that he struggled for three days to keep up with it, so I assigned it to Mr. Aniediabasi Etukudo when Miss Audu Aishat Abosede politely turned down the offer. The two guys, to their credit, sorted themselves out. I had no headaches on schedule after all.

I repeat: I don't know how much I was involved with OBS but there were some telling signs.
1. Most of my room mates didn't know me, and vice versa. They latter named me "The OBS Man".
2. I was always on duty because all writers, who rotate on schedule must submit every event's report to me.
3. I was always at OBS from the morning trumpet. I took my bath, washed clothes, go to kitchen etc from the OBS building. Sometimes I sent people to the kitchen on my behalf.

These were obviously without its disadvantages.
1. I didn't get to participate in almost none of platoon activities.
2. Same went for Social Activities - until Aleem Idaya Ọpẹyẹmi came.
3. Skipped some meals.
4. Didn't participated in Hostel cleanings, kitchen services, sports and related activities.

TỌBA ADÉDÈJÌ CHALLENGE
*************************************

Tọba was a coursemate from OND days (2014-2016) and he served in the same OBS as head Writers 2019/2020. He came to camp twice to see me among other things.

While I was thanking him on WhatsApp on the first visit, he said that edited 69 stories as OBS Head Writers. I asked, "am I supposed to beat that?" He came around again the second day and told me details of his editing experiences at OBS. That they still brought him news to edit even when he landed in the camp clinic some 48 hours to leave the camp. I asked how? He said he participated in many other activities aside OBS, including Platoon's.

I unanimously made 70-stories my own challenge after I announced it via WhatsApp status. It was a great surprise that Mr. Chucks Okoji, Cypher Muhammad, Classic Olayinka, Ìtàn Ayòbámi Africa were on the fore among people who were following the tallies as I kept updating in the days that followed.

COORDINATORSHIP
 *************************************

August 8th, 2021 we (OBS members) were called to the Pavilion for undisclosed purpose(s). I remember I sat between Audu Aisha Abosede and Ihrivbogbe Cecilia Oyindamola who are both in my unit and Ozuwo Beatrice Edward who headed presenters. We were chatting away as usual.

Again Ofure and Agboola did the talking. Units' heads were called out (Babarinde Tosin was absent) to give some feedback on their units. We did. And went back to our various seats.

I didn't even know what else was being said because I was deep in conversation with the girls. Suddenly I heard my name being called by more people, I raised my head to see I was being summoned at the front. When I got there I couldn't make a head or tail of what's being said, but I heard "Coordinator" said. And that was that.

Cecilia was also called and I gave her my (now former) tag as head Writers and I was given another one that read "Coordinator".

Expectedly, congratulations reeled in. Yes. I allowed it however soon grew weird and tired. Later embarrassed. So embarrassed that I turned my tag innerward for 72 hours. Israel Oghenesodjha (of Photography Unit) was the first runner up in this regard, he busied himself calling me "coordinator" whenever we saw.

I become friends with two friends on camp who are worthy of mention: Aleem Idaya Opeyemi and Majeedah Muritala Adufẹ. The former served in the camp clinic and the latter was SERVICOM member and my Platoon member.

Miss Aleem lost her white t-shirt in the Multipurpose Hall and came to OBS to see if anyone would be kind enough to bring it there. She kept coming that I felt for her and decided to buy her another one. That's how we become good friends afterwards. Till date.

Miss Muritala become a good friend after we all mocked ourselves for not getting the matching training alright. We all laughed at ourselves and I approached her to know more, hence become friends.

Furthermore, I met with some friends on camp too. They included and not limited to:

Furthermore, I met with some friends on camp too. They included and not limited to:
Toluwashe Paul (Uncle Bright), Ejalonibu Rofiat Adéshẹwa, Alágbè Adenike, Dan Pherson (we also lived in the same room/hostel), Adeniyi Damilola Ifeoluwa (Dimension), Ogunjobi Joshua (Young Josh), etc

I remember below activities too:

1. I suggested three plays to my Platoon, Platoon 9 and they rejected them. But Debbie, a member of OBS and Platoon 8 called me to her Platoon. I narrated them the history of Ọṣùn River of Osogbo and scripted a three acts story for them. They came first and were appreciative of my gesture. It's written in Social Committee Report as "Finally, the social activities came to an end on a high and colourful note with a showcase of cultural diversities during the carnival. Subsequently, Plantoon 8 come first with 49.7 points, Platoon 1 second with 47.7 points and Platoon 5 with 47.3".

2. The Eburu of Iba, Ọba (Dr) Adekunle Adeogun Okunoye Oyedeji ll came to the camp to give speech on 4th of August. I had the privilege of chatting his praises while Abosede Audu Aisha gave him a present.

3. On the 7the of August, I, alongside Beatrice represented our Platoon 9 in Speech Contest, organized by Mindthegapdotcom team in collaboration with Google.

I afterwards wrote in the news, "Each Platoon had two members each who gave a talk about the topic of discourse for a duration of five minutes.

"After intense sessions, the debate ended with Platoon 2 coming 1st with 273.25 points, Platoon 4 came 2nd and Platoon 6 came 3rd, the platoons were rewarded with a cash gift of 10,000 naira, 7,000 naira and 5,000 naira respectively.

"Other positions include, Platoon 1 came 4th, Platoon 3 came 5th, Platoon 10 came 6th, Platoon 9 came 7th, Platoon 7 came 8th, Platoon 5 came 9th and Platoon 8 came last."

4. I thanked the NYSC Management during State Debriefing State Debriefing on the 1st of August, 2021. It is reproduced below:

While giving vote of thanks on behalf of fellow PCMs, Mr. Jimoh Taofik Adekunle with the Code No. OS/ 21B/0319 thanked the Osun NYSC for all it put in place in giving them nothing short of best value.

Moremi Ajasoro And The Historical Circus

Story of Moremi hangs between three different royalties in Yoruba lands: Ile-Ife [Osun State], Ugbo [Ilaje Ese Odo, Ondo State] and Offa [Offa LG, Kwara State], and each has dichotomies of histories it holds sacred. The two aforementioned are major though.
Today in Yoruba land, there are two statues of Omoremi Ajansoro. Not that having two statues is an issue for a woman of her repute, but the two statues have different stories being narrations of those that erected them.
The first was erected by Ooni of Ife, Oba Alayeluwa Ogunwusi Enitan Ojaja II and the second by Olugbo of Ugbo, Ilaje Ese Odo in Ondo State. The former depicts her as an heroine holding the touch with which she helped Ile-Ife defeated the Ugbo and the second depicts her pleading - according to Olugbo – Olugbo’s forefathers to accept her back after she had known ”the truth”.
Ooni of Ife Oba Ogunwusi Ojaja II erected the tallest statue in Nigeria in Moremi’s honour. She is so venerated in Ife that you will think she is a goddess. However, Ugbo people till today blast Moremi as a traitor and they do not hide their hatred for her. There is no name they do not call her. Olugbo when he unveiled her statue said Moremi would forever remain Olugbo’s wife who she bore a prince, and that Moremi eventually came back to beg Olugbo to beg for forgivess, as depicted by the mould of the statue.
To break the ice, Moremi DID NOT MARRY ORANMIYAN. It is surprising that this false connotation has been in circulation for too long a time. The great Duro Ladipo also supported this narration. And thus there are three things wrong in his theater adaption of Moremi.
First, She is said to be a princess from Offa [which is true], and that there was a great feminine in Offa which made two chiefs (Otun and Osi) to fight on a tuber of Yam. The case was taken to Oloffa who wanted to cheat them of it. The case was subsequently taken to Alaafin Oranmiyan who after instructing them on how to divide the yam equally saw Moremi, took her as wife, her father’s disapproval regardless. If Oranmiyan did so, he committed incest and inbreeding by the ‘fact’ that the marriage produced a child [Oluorogbo].
No matter how crude, primitive and uncivilized they claim we were, this act is abomination in Yoruba land, and if he had done it then, histories would have said so.
(The story went on that after Moremi become a queen in Oyo, Oranmiyan went to battles and left her and other queens behind. She however came to Ile-Ife, probably because Ile-Ife is her husband’s home, on her own accord.)
Secondly, Duro Ladipo tried to narrate the history of Ijakadi, but must thought saying two chiefs fought on a tuber of yam doesn’t speak well. This narration should be refuted having failed examinations. The Ijakadi in history of Iran Oloffa happened to the ‘same people’ who fought over a tuber of yam. And histories of Iran Oloffa agree that it happened between two brothers. So where did Duro Ladipo see two chiefs that ‘disagree’ but didn’t engage in ijakadi bout?
Thirdly, the usage of Otun and Osi is incorrect. Iran Oloffa chieftaincies do not have Otun and Osi; Ojomu, Eesa, Shawo take their place. Odofin chieftancy is exclusive to Ilofa, Kwara State].
When I say ‘Iran Oloffa, I am talking about a scattered, heterogeneous ancestry like any other Yoruba ancestry. Most of them are found in Ọ̀ffàtẹdo in Osun State, Iyana Ọ̀̀ffà in Ibadan, Ọ̀ffàtẹdo in Ibadan, Oyo State, Owode-Ọ̀faro in Kwara State, Ọ̀ffà Irese in Kwara State, Ilọfa in Kwara State, Ọ̀ffà Èésun, Ìsàlẹ̀ Ọ̀ffà in Òkùkù, Ọsun State, Ọ̀ffà Igbó-Oro, Alairin family in Ikẹrẹ-Èkìtì in presentday Èkìtì State and Ìsàlẹ̀ Ọ̀ffà in Ìgbayé.
Presentday Offa is called Offa Arinlolu. I call it Offa Ile too.
This has been extensively discussed in my book, ‘Olofamojo: Scientific Research On Iran Olofa’.
History of Moremi has been written by Posi Ogunremi and been published by House of Oduduwa, an obvious sign of endorsement by Ooni Ogunwusi Enitan Ojaja II. The author’s can be reached via 07053635130.
Back to rail: there are a few obstructions in the history of Omoremi, as NO ONE can lay a finger on the exact year of her existence. I am familiar with some writers writing 500 - 800 years ago, but this can’t be verified. Also no one can say the names of the Ooni, Olugbo and Oloffa on throne when she (Moremi) lived. Some said Ooni Alayemoore, but has founding of Offa Eesun, the first Offa been that long?
Omoremi as a name is actually an Ife word pronunced _re mi do mi_ which was shortened to Moremi that everyone calls it presently. She is from Igun (_do do_) one of the ancient communities in Ile-Ife now extinct. The community is around the present day Iyekere area of the city of Ile-Ife. Iyekere in itself was coined out of an expression, Yee kere (_do mi mi mi_) which means "this is too young or too small in Ife dialect.
Without undue repetition, we all know what she did to save Ile-Ife, sacrificed her son and how her heroic act is immortalized in the Edi Festival celebrated in Ile-Ife which lasts for seven days. It involves clapping but no drumming as it is a solemn affair. There is also a wrestling match in front of the palace of the Ooni of Ife symbolizing the struggle between Ile Ife & Ugbo people. On the 7th day, a goat is sacrificed as a representation of Oluorogbo & his sacrifice for the welfare of the society.
I recommended Moremi history book by the author mentioned above (Posi Ogunremi) in order to juxtapose with your version of Moremi story. He disagreed that no town called Igun in the history of ile - Ife but he agreed with the another name, Atete you called Moremi only son. He stressed that Atete was nicknamed of Moremi’s son in the Oriki during Edi festival. Just like Ooni Ademiluyi also nicknamed Ajagun, Adegunle also known as Abewela, Ooni Akinmoyero also referred to Odunle and Odede also nicknamed Oranmiyan to mention just a few.
He disclosed further that "Ela" or “Oluorogbo” was the real name of Moremi son. Moremi named the child Oluorogbo because of popularity of first Oluorogbo owing to his assignment. We were told that original Oluorogbo " wa tun Aye se ni".
It however should be noted that another deity had earlier known as Oluorogbo. Obalase is its Chief priest.
HOW IS MOREMI RELATED TO OFFA?
In a discussion I had with Mr. Muhammad Lawal, I asked “what if Offa refuses to accept Moremi story written by Chief Posi Ogunremi?” He asked, “what story do they have to tell?
Moremi’s mother was a princess from Offa, but her father, Lukugba [a hunter] hailed from Okerewe Compound in Ilé Ìfe. If any Offa indigene argues, ask them him/her questions:
1. If Moremi was born in Offa, which agbo ile was her father or mother from? And was she a contemporary of the founder of Olofa or way after the town had fully evolved?
2. Offa is an Oyo offshoot. In fact, the founder of Offa was of several generations after Oyo was founded. In this light, how is Moremi, a pre-Oyo dramatist personae featured in an extremely post-Oyo narrative? Except Ejigbomekun, Ife, & Oyo were founded at exactly the same period with shared experiences & culture heroes.
3. Could it be said that Offa probably had a similar experience with a female culture hero who saved some people & to retain their experience in human memory they chose to merge the story into Ife's Moremi?
Ọba Olúgbensẹ, the 8th Ọlọ́ffa, during a sojourn to Ile-Ife transferred the Òrìṣà Mọremi (i.e tu idò Mọremi) to in Ọ́ffá. The first Moremi Shrine was in front Keji Palace. The Shrine was shifted to latter-day Ọja Alẹ when a king from Anilelerin House was enthroned. It's now erected to Mọremi Hall of Fame building.
The first place Moremi was enshrined is now where Mùsùlùmí Nfẹ Àlàáfíà Mosque is sitting on at Film House. That spot is the only place that has hosted three different religions in Ọ́ffá.
Moremi High School, female residence halls in UNILAG & OAU are all named after Mọ́remí Àjàsorò. In 2017, Ooni of Ife Oba Ogunwusi Ojaja II erected the tallest statue in Nigeria in her honour. She is so venerated in Ife that you will think she is a goddess. However, Ugbo people till today blast Moremi as a traitor & an ashawo kobo kobo & they do not hide their hatred for her. There is no name they do not call her. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist I guess.
And those who hold the argument that Moremi married Oranmiyan said the ancient town of Offa actually existed around the Osangangan Obamakin and Oduduwa era. This assertion, they believed, should hold water if we honestly believe that Moremi Ajasoro lived at the same time with Oduduwa because history had it that Moremi was a very pretty woman who was from Ofa but married to Oranmiyan. Apparently, Oduduwa was still very much alive during the Ugbo raids of Ile-Ife; just like we had other deities such as Esinminrin and Oluorogbo.
This argument holds no water as Oranmiyan had long died before the disturbance of Ife by the Ugbo.
They say Omoremi who was from Lukugba compound in Ife, he begot a son Oluorogbo (Obalase) for the then Onisoro ijugbe (Obarese) before he later married Alayemore after the demise of Oranmiyan.
The Ugbo people leftIle-Ife immediately Alayemore was enthroned as Ooni because the ugho people believed that they were been cheated and marginalized, being one of the grandson of Oranfe, that was why they decided to make the government ungovernable for Alayemore.
This story is raised two questions:
Moremi married thrice: Onisoro ijugbe (Obarese) for whom she begat Oluorogbo, Oranmiyan and later Olugbo.
As Ugbo truly left Ile-Ife after Ooni Obalufon Alayemoore was enthroned, does this mean Offa [Offa Eesun behind the first] had been in existence that time?
Alaafin Sango married Oya Oriiri from Irra Fere [it is some kilometers from the presentday Irra], beside Offa, this claim would place year of founding the first Offa side by side with Irra.
There are more on this history of Alayemore and Ugho people.. Onisoro ijugbe (Obarese), who these historians claim to be the first husband of Moremi was known for 2 things: he's the custodian of Rain according to Otu History. This is evident in a song ife people do sing in February during Obarese Festival.
Ami rele Amu Ojo (Rain) ko'fe oo
(We are going to where Ife people derived Rain)
Ebo Lase
(We have made a Sacrifice)
Ojo ro l’Otu Ife
(Rain Fall down in Otu ife)
Ebo lase
(We have made a sacrifice)

Onisoro ijugbe (Obarese) was also known as the first drawing Artist in out If you go to Obalejugbe, you will see some of the Artworks of Obarese.
Oluorogbo (also known as Obalase), the son Moremi allegedly born for Onisoro ijugbe (Obarese) inherited the two from him, i.e he become the custodian of Rain according to Otu History after him and was an artist too.
Again, during his festival, Ife people do sing:
Olukoro mojo, hinha Lani Ojo (Rain) Lani Eji (dew)
Obalase loni Ojo.

Translation
Olukoro mojo, we are the owner of rain and dew
Obalase (i.e Oluorogbo) is the owner of Rain.
The Oluorogbo Deity is different from Oluorogbo Son of Moremi. No one has distorted any history here. Both are two different entities.
